About the Author
ELIZA KENNEDY attended the University of Iowa and Harvard Law School, where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. After graduation she served as a law clerk for a federal judge, then practiced litigation for several years at a prestigious Manhattan law firm. She lives in New York with her husband and son. This is her first novel.

A satisfying romp, not meant to be realism

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is smart and funny and subversive. It gets a little tedious towards the end when one of the characters uses text messages to rationalize his behavior but overall this book was extremely entertaining and a great read.
I would not recommend this book to those who are offended by drug use, profanity, or infidelity. I don't think that this book advocates these things but rather portrays a character who is sorting through a lot of issues. The book does not judge her and neither do I. While I prefer monogamy and would feel devastated if I were cheated upon, I don't think that it is the end of the world nor does it make the cheater a terrible horrible person. Readers who view things in a black/white palette will most likely not enjoy this book.

'I Take You' will take you where you want to go-

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and I found the writing, regarding the sex scenes especially, to be terrific. There is a bit of a mystery in regard to one of the main characters, and it turns out to add even further interest to the main storyline. And the court scenes (often humorous) are an effective means of distraction from the main character's more personal dramas.
The character development, over all, is top-notch. I knew the voices of each by the middle of the book and they remained true throughout. The protagonist is an interesting, intelligent, sexually-charged young woman who initially thinks she has it all figured out. It's a blast to later experience her questioning her tried-and-true behaviors and her own moral compass.
I also enjoyed the sex scenes in this book because they were so well written. I haven't found erotic writing this good since Merritt Tierce's 'Love Me Back,' which is one of the best books I've read in a long time.
I raced through 'I Take You' and highly recommend it.

Don't Waste Your Money

I bought this book because I wanted some light, humorous summer reading and I read it would be made into a movie. This book was neither light nor humorous, and I will not be purchasing a movie ticket if it is turned into a film. Although it did have a strong female character, the reader is sucked into her world of alcohol and casual sex with strangers. There is nothing funny about this story line, and there is nothing sexy about the sex.
I usually pass on novels to family and friends or donate them to the Little Free Library in my neighborhood. In all good conscience, I cannot even sell this book to Half Price Books. The "Thanks" pages at the end of the novel hit it right on the head. Eliza Kennedy said her novel is one her mother could be embarrassed her daughter wrote. The only location I will place this book is in the trash.
