Damon's English teacher is so nice.
Really nice. And pretty too.
He'd better not say that to Jessica, though.
She'd accuse him of having a crush.
Like that'd happen.

Book #19 in the Sweet Valley Jr. High Series
By A Customer
When Damon Ross' English teacher, Mrs. Serson, asks him to join her newly-formed literary magazine group, Damon is surprised, yet he gladly accepts the invitation, enjoying the attention his young, pretty teacher has started giving him. It's a real ego boost for him, and he starts to develop a small crush on his teacher. Not a very complicated one though, but you get the hint he's starting for feel something for her.
Damon's girlfriend (Jessica Wakefield), however, doesn't feel like he's showing enough interest in her, because he hardly ever includes her in his everyday life, i.e., the developing problem at home with his mother's new boyfriend (Ben). Jessica doesn't realize yet that Damon isn't the type to express his thoughts or feelings freely. So, she interprets his silence as his way of blowing her off. Will Jessica, in turn, split up with him for her hot new science partner, Chris Grassi, who is far more interested in her than Damon appears to be?
Meanwhile, Lacey Frells suddenly dumps her older high school boyfriend (Gel), and it looks like she may hook up with Richard Griggs, the most conceited boy in school. Honestly, I think these two are perfect for each other; they're both complete snots.
This is the first Sweet Valley Junior High book I've read so far. Unlike most other Sweet Valley books, this book/series is written in the first-person, which does create a bit more "closeness" between the reader and character, more so than in, say, the Sweet Valley Twins series (an older version of the middle-school years featuring the Wakefield twins, which was also written by the same author, Jamie Suzanne, although I doubt most younger readers will remember these books). Like the SVH: Senior Year series, there are also random journal entries and notes in here, which makes this book/series all the more enjoyable. Recommended for 8 to 12-years-old.

Love Is In the Air
By Prism Light
Damon has been feeling alone lately. His mom has started dating again, and is really enjoying the company of a man named Ben. Because the two are so close, he is always over...replacing Damon. Most kids would whine about babysitting their two little sisters, but when Ben constantly offers to do things for the two girls, Damon can't help feeling defensive. It's like he's not needed anymore. Then Ms. Serson, Damon's teacher, starts becoming more noticable. She is young, pretty, a good listener, and is relying on Damon to help her with a literary magazine that she is starting. For once, Damon feels like he's needed. But now JESSICA is the one feeling not needed. Every day it seems like Damon is becoming more distant, and Jessica fears that he is getting ready to break up with her.
Meanwhile, Lacey is feeling bored. So Gel has a car, big whoop! There's nothing else interesting about him...but at least he's not Richard Griggs! Richard is a self-absorbed player who seems to be up in her face a lot lately...what a jerk! What a loser! What a...um...cute guy. What an idiot! What a dummy! What a...um...quick-witted...cute guy.
This is a good book! Not the best I've read from this series, but still good. I found Lacey's story especially interesting. I recommend this series to Babysitters' Club, Luna Bay, and Mary-Kate & Ashley book lovers.

Damon+Jessica=CUTE COUPLE!
By A Customer
I'm so glad that Damon and Jessica managed to sray together! They are so cute togther. In this book, Damon is having some trouble at home. Then his English teacher asks him to become part of the staff of this new newspaper-type-thing. He really enjoys it, and really looks up to his teacher. But Jessica sort of takes it the wrong way. She thinks that the reason Damon isn't talking to her about personal stuff is because he likes his teacher more and doesn't care about her anymore. Which isn't true at all. As a matter of fact, Damon really likes Jess, and the big "event" at the end proves it!
Also, Richard Griggs and Lacey start flirting and I really think they're beginning to like each other. Maybe if Lacey finds love then she'll stop being so grouchy, and stop bothering Kristin about her and Brian. Although everyone hates Lacey, I sorta don't blame her sometimes. I mean, look at what she had to go through? And even though her dad and Victoria obviously love her, it's just not the same as a mom to a 14/15 year old girl.
So....I'm out of things to say. Just trust me: read this book! But I suggest starting from #1, because these'll make WAAAAAY more sense! Thanx!
